    A note on the charcoal is that you can add it to the water while you are letting it settle…Charcoal works by absorbing the bad stuff that is in the water and soaking will take more bad stuff out that pouring through…Great info

    This will not remove microbes. So it is just clearifying the water. What experance have you had by digging a pit next to a water source?

    Filtering is a great Idea, but you should always boil the water when drinking from a natural source. Filtering will remove the non organic items in water that can make you sick. It will not consistently remove microorganisms that can make you sick. Vomiting and diarrhea are the shortest path to death by dehydration.
